Forum to focus on issues facing this group of young people
On Wednesday, May 19 Rep. Doug Hart, R-Rockford, will welcome young males of color from across the state to the Capitol. Participants will address the Michigan House Civics Commission (MHCC) from 9 to11:30a.m. in Room 210 of the Farnum Building.
“Members of this community are disproportionately dropping out of school, getting into trouble with the law and having children out of wedlock,” Hart said. “Bringing them to Lansing and listening to what they have to say on issues will allow us to better serve their needs.”
The program is designed to facilitate a worthwhile academic experience, as well as to benefit public policy in Michigan by creating ideas for bills to address possible interventions and solutions for this population.
“This program was started because the youth of Michigan have a keen insight into their lives and the issues that they are facing and as a result are able to find solutions to problems that legislators here in Lansing may not come up with,” Hart said.
