David Law
State Representative David Law was elected to the Michigan House to represent the residents of West Bloomfield and Commerce Townships in Nov. of 2004. Within the first six months of taking office, two bills he sponsored were signed into law.
In May 1991, Law earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration, majoring in Finance from the University of Notre Dame. He then went on to law school at the Detroit College of Law where he graduated in January 1995 with his Juris Doctor.
Law is an attorney concentrating primarily in criminal law, probate, insurance defense and domestic relations.
In 1998 he was appointed to serve as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Oakland County, where he worked in all aspects of felony trial practice including Bench and Jury trials. Handling more than 2000 felony cases and 50 felony trials, Law gained legal expertise both in the courtroom and in areas such as warrant writing, motions and hearings, and juvenile law.
While serving the public as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Law lectured statewide on law enforcement issues for the Oakland County Police Academy, the Paralegal Program at Oakland Community College, and the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan. He was a student mentor and judge for the Prosecutor’s Teen Court Program and participated in other educational programs for students.
Law is an active member of the Oakland County Republican Party and has volunteered for a number of local Republican activities. He has been a loyal party activist having attended past Republican State Conventions as a delegate and former precinct delegate for the Oakland County Republicans.
In addition to political and professional involvements, David participates in a number of local and state organizations. He is a member of the West Bloomfield Optimists Club, West Bloomfield Citizens for Responsible Government, American Cancer Society, Commerce/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, State Bar of Michigan, Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, National District Attorneys Association, Multi-Lakes Conservation Association, Michigan United Conservation Clubs, Right to Life of Michigan, Michigan Humane Society, Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO), National Rifle Association, Member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 128, Southwestern Oakland County, Michigan Special Olympics and on the Board of Advisors for Ending Stereotypes for America.
David Law attends services at the Prince of Peace Church in West Bloomfield. He was born March 9, 1969.
