
John J. Gleason, Representative of the 48th District, represents Northern Genesee County, including the cities of Clio, Flushing, Montrose, Mount Morris, Village of Otisville, and the townships of Clayton, Flushing, Forest, Montrose, Mount Morris, Thetford, and Vienna. He is a lifelong resident of Genesee County. He and his wife, Karen, have two children, Clancy Rose and Eamonn, and attend St. Roberts Catholic Church in Flushing.
Representative Gleason, 48, is a 1972 graduate of Flushing High School, graduated from Mott Community College and attended Northern Michigan University. He has worked as a skilled trade millwright for 30 years and is a member of Millwright Local 1102.
Gleason has served as a Genesee County Commissioner from 1995-2002. During his years of local government service, he has served on all major committees and has been instrumental in the enhancement of Genesee county parks and county roads. Representative Gleason has organized an annual Genesee County Health Fair, which included free health screening for local residents.
As Chairman of the Genesee County Economic Development Committee, he was
active in working with local businesses and organized labor to keep Genesee
County's economy growing.
In September of 2001, Gleason had a kidney transplant and is a spokesperson
for the Gift of Life in promoting organ donations. John was presented the
Carroll Clark award for advocating diversification among women and minorities
at the county level. In 2001, Representative Gleason was nominated by the
Flint Area Building Trades Council for the John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage
award, for his tenacity to include women and minorities for positions on
county boards.
Representative Gleason is a proud recipient of the 2002 Knights of Columbus Citizen of the Year Award and has been honored by the AFL-CIO as Local Legislator of the Year for his work on the Genesee County Commission.
He is a member of Sigma Alpha Nu F.O.P., Lions, Moose, Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and is an avid hunter and sportsman.
